If you’re worried about negative energies invading your home, there’s a simple and easy way to use salt as a boundary. I do this at least once a week, but you don’t need to do it as often. As long as the salt line is intact, it is still working.
Here’s a simple home protection salt spell:
Ingredients
A small jar with a lid
Black salt or Kosher salt (regular table salt will work just fine if you need to substitute)
1 tsp dried basil
1 tsp ground cloves
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp ash from a previous spell (if you don’t have this handy, no worries. I usually always discard spell remains outdoors when I’m finished so I often don’t have this on hand. It strengthens the spell, but isn’t necessary.)
As with any spell, I always recommend doing a simple grounding before putting together all the ingredients. Intention and focus are the most important factors when trying to bring about real change.
At your altar space or in a clean kitchen space, combine the ingredients in the jar. You can recite a simple spell as you add each ingredient. For example:
Salt to ward,
Basil to defend,
Cloves to guard,
Pepper to shield,
Ash to protect
Once you’ve added all the ingredients, cover the jar with the lid and shake to mix. Once mixed, hold the jar in both hands and envision a bright, white light emanating from your heart. Focus on the intent of the spell (protection and warding off negative energies) as you steady your breathing and visualize the white light moving from your heart, through your arms, and into the jar.
Once you’ve transferred your energy to the jar, you can pour the contents in a straight line across the front of your door or on the boundary of your property. I recommend putting a line where it won’t be easily kicked, like the inside part of a door mat, or in the crevice between two boards of a deck.
